Benghazi Truth Obama Clinton - Business Insider

Caught playing politics with tragedy, what's next for the Obama administration and GOP investigators?

AP

"These changes don't resolve all of my issues or those of my building's leadership." With that sentence, one in a series of emails and draft "talking points" leaked to Jonathan Karl of ABC News, the Obama administration was caught playing politics with Benghazi.

Summaries of White House and State Department emails -- some of which were first published by Stephen F. Hayes of the Weekly Standard?-- also contradict the White House version of events that led to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice misleading the public about the cause of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. installation in Libya.

Where does this all lead?

Politics: It would be na?ve to expect any White House to ignore the political implications of a foreign policy crisis occurring two months before a presidential election. But there is a reason why no White House admits to finessing a tragedy: It's unseemly. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland injected politics into the U.S. response to Benghazi when she raised objections to draft "talking points" being prepared for Rice's television appearances.

One paragraph, drafted by the CIA, referenced the agency's warnings about terrorist threats in Benghazi in the months prior to the attack, as well as extremists linked to the al-Qaida affiliate Ansar al-Sharia. In an email to officials at the White House and intelligence agencies, Nuland said the information "could be abused by members (of Congress) to beat up the State Department for not paying attention to warnings, so why would we want to feed that either? Concerned ..."

The paragraph was deleted. The truth was scrubbed.

Nuland still had concerns. "These changes don't resolve all of my issues or those of my buildings (sic) leadership," she wrote.

Did she have good reason to believe that the GOP would demonize her boss, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (the building leader)? Yes.

Could she trust the GOP to be fair-minded and understanding? No.

Could Benghazi be a campaign issue if not carefully managed? Yes.

But she and her cohorts in the administration were wrong to let political considerations cloud the public record. For far too long, the White House shied away from calling Benghazi a terrorist attack and stood behind Rice's initial statement that it was inspired by protests over a crude anti-Islamic video.

Credibility: The White House has long maintained that the talking points were drafted almost exclusively by the CIA, a claim that gave cover to both President Obama and his potential successor, Clinton. "Those talking points originated from the intelligence community," White House spokesman Jay Carney said in November, adding that the only editing by the White House or the State Department was to change the word "consulate" to "diplomatic facility."? Nuland's emails prove him wrong. ?As I wrote yesterday ("Why Benghazi is a Blow to Obama and Clinton"), Obama has earned the trust of most Americans but credibility is a fragile thing.

Throw Hillary under the bus? In a statement to ABC, Carney notably insulates the West Wing and not the State Department by saying "the only edits made by anyone here at the White House were stylistic and nonsubstantive." And, with no apparent regard to hypocrisy, Carney criticized the GOP for attempting to "politicize the talking points."

Drip, drip, drip: There is almost certainly more to come. While Karl and Hayes did not disclose their sources, a hallmark of congressional investigations is to leak selected evidence to embarrass the sitting administration. It's a safe bet that these emails, produced voluntarily for Congress by the State Department, were summarized and leaked by Republicans. The Obama White House might want to borrow a page from the scandal-ridden Clinton playbook: Release all Benghazi documents at a time and manner of their choosing, before the GOP does so.

Anyway, Donni practices my two favorite tips: eating clean & SUNSCREEN. Like she says below: ?I want to look like I?m in my twenties FOREVER.?

Yup, yup- slaughter up!

Happy Mother?s Day, lovas! If you?re anything like me you?re enjoying a fresh Suja ( green! ) mimosa- cheers!

I?m a passionate person, & I believe in doing what I love while living life to the fullest. I?m lucky enough to call my job my passion. I have two companies, Privilege Clothing Boutique which currently has two locations ( soon to be three ) & a jewelry line called Alden Rae with my best friend, Miriam Alden ( see below ).

I live by my values & truly appreciate the little things that bring meaning to life: most importantly friendships & family. I?m a mother to the cutest, & quite possibly WILDEST, little two year old boy?who never fails to keep life interesting.

I never truly underestimate the power of good people, & true, non-judgemental relationships. I live by the motto ?be nice to people.?

DR: Privilege Clothing Boutique was founded in 2007. About one year later, we opened our second location. The online store evolved organically shortly after. We cater to a wide demographic, carrying both men & women designer brands & premium denim. Privilege is well known for carrying renowned brands such as Rebecca Minkoff, Free People, & Hugo Boss ? alongside international and independent brands such as Wish ( Australian ), Peridot, & Zanerobe. We try to keep prices competitive & make sure we?re always offering a wide range of price points, from budget friendly to luxury items.

DR:?Eat real food. Find balance in your life. Exercise in moderation. Go outside.

It?s all about balance to me, and staying physically active everyday. I try to focus on eating whole, organic foods, although I don?t deprive myself either. If I want a cupcake, I?ll have a damn cupcake.

DR:?When I don?t have morning sickness for two months on end?oops, did I mention I have another little one on the way? I definitely try to get to the gym five days/week. Sometimes I?ll substitute the track outdoors if it?s nice outside! I usually work out with my mom & my sister, so I get an equal balance of the social aspect ; ). I?m still not sure if I actually get more working out in or more chatting?

I do an equal mix of cardio, weight training, & chasing my two year old around the kitchen island. On the days I?m too busy to make the gym because of my hectic schedule, my fianc? & I often challenge each other to do ?hundreds?. It?s a hundred push ups, a hundred sit ups, a hundred air squats?AS FAST AS YOU CAN. Don?t laugh until you try it.

+ Favorite go-to healthy food?

DR:?I would have to say juicing is my favorite. At home, one of the ONLY things you can find in my fridge is fruits & vegetables for juicing. As much as I would like to consider myself a chef, we end going out to dinner more than we cook. We regularly juice foods like beets, lemons, apples, & carrots ? for a quick energy boost. We also try to choose healthier options when eating out for dinner.

+ Cocktail of choice?

DR:?I?d have to say wine, or champagne?which is noticeably absent from my life right now! Right now I will settle for a virgin Caesar?although you American?s may have to Google that, to find out the recipe!

Mass. Gov: Tuesday commute won't be 'business as usual'

By A. Pawlowski, NBC News contributor

If you?re hitting the road on Tuesday, expect to see even more eyes and cameras than usual watching you if you?re taking public transportation or catching a flight a day after the deadly blasts in Boston.

The metropolis itself is telling travelers to be patient.

?The city of Boston is open,? said Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, in a news conference on Monday evening. ?But it will not be business as usual.?

Commuters riding on Boston trains and subways should expect random checks of backpacks and other parcels, Patrick said, adding that travelers should count on ?that inconvenience for the time being? and remain in a state of heightened vigilance.

If you use Boston mass transit to get to work and get around, you should be good to go on Tuesday, with trains and buses operating on a normal schedule.

The blasts did not cause any damage to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, which operates subway service and commuter rail in the city, said spokesman Joe Pesaturo.?

?The MBTA has every intention of operating regularly scheduled service on all lines,? Pesaturo said in an email to NBC News.?

?MBTA personnel and Transit Police, with strong support from the National Guard and other law enforcement agencies, are working side by side to maintain a safe and secure transit environment.?

Copley Station, which was scheduled to be closed for the marathon and which is near the blast zone, will remain closed tomorrow.? But Green Line trains will bypass the station and continue to operate through the Back Bay, making stops at Hynes and Arlington Stations, Pesaturo said.

If you drive, be aware that the area around crime scene will be closed for the foreseeable future, according to Cheryl Fiandaca, a spokeswoman for the Boston Police Department.

Air travelers flying out of and into Boston Logan International should be able to proceed with their journey as usual. The airport remained open all day Monday, operated normally ??save for a brief ground stop after the blasts ??and did not have any delays, said Richard Walsh, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority.

?I have no reason to think that (Tuesday) won?t be the same,? Walsh said.

?I would advise travelers to check with their airline before leaving for the airport. We give that advice during any irregular operations periods, such as bad weather, so people should probably heed that advice in this situation.?

See images from the scene of the explosions.

'Very much alert'
When asked whether fliers would notice any extra security or should plan for additional safety measures, Walsh would only say the airport takes a multi-layered approach to security and the procedures are ?always evolving.?

?Logan Airport is always very much alert,? he said.

The explosions in Boston prompted other major cities to implement extra security measures at their travel gateways. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo directed state agencies ??including the MTA, which runs the Big Apple?s transit system, and the Port Authority, which operates the three major New York-area airports ??to be on a heightened state of alert.

Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray said that while no areas of the city have been closed off, visitors and commuters should expect to see more law enforcement officers on patrol.

?You will see a visible increase in presence (in security),? added Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier during a news conference on Monday.

?We have a very strong security plan in place ... I want people to feel comfortable to take public transportation.?

Even Los Angeles International Airport, some 3,000 miles away from Boston, has increased police presence at its terminals out of an ?abundance of caution,? LAX officials tweeted.

The TSA referred all questions about how the explosions were affecting airport checkpoints and procedures across the country to the Department of Homeland Security, which did not immediately return a request for comment. But in a statement, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the agency is providing ?any support necessary? in the ongoing investigation.

?We encourage the public to be vigilant, and to listen to direction from state and local officials,? Napolitano said.

Meanwhile, Amtrak is increasing security at its stations and asking travelers to report any suspicious or unattended bags. All trains are operating as scheduled.

Puny plastic particles mar Lake Erie?s waters

Polymer trash is laden with pollutants

By Rachel Ehrenberg

Web edition: April 12, 2013

Lingering in Lake Erie are millions of tiny pieces of plastics loaded with toxic pollutants, a new study finds. The results are part of the first study to look at the distribution and possible effects of plastic pollution in the Great Lakes.

The results don?t surprise Joel Baker, science director of the Center for Urban Waters at the University of Washington Tacoma. Plastic debris ?is everywhere,? he says.

Lorena Rios Mendoza of the University of Wisconsin-Superior and her colleagues combed the Great Lakes? waters for microplastics ? pieces up to 5 millimeters across, or about as big as a BB gun pellet. When bigger pieces of plastic trash get battered by waves and baked by the sun, they break down into tiny bits. The researchers found that these microparticles make up about 80 percent of total plastic samples collected in Lake Erie.

Chemical analysis of the samples revealed varying levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs, and polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, Rios Mendoza reported April 11 at the American Chemical Society meeting in New Orleans. The bits of plastic, which are basically ?solid oil,? says Rios Mendoza, take up the pollutants like a sponge.

It isn?t clear whether the pollutants might affect fish or birds that eat the bits of trash. The pollutants may stay locked up in the plastic, says Baker, rather than leeching out into the water supply or wildlife. But that doesn?t mean people have a license to litter, he says. The wide distribution of plastic in the world?s waters means there are many, many sources of the debris. To limit plastic in the water, the supply would have to be shut down in multiple places.

?That means if you have better litter control on the shoreline,? he says, ?you can break the chain.?

Pineapple, coconut & mint smoothie {vegan, dairy-free} | Fig & Cherry

Posted on April 4, 2013 by ChristieBreakfast, Drinks, Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian

This post is sponsored by Vitasoy.

Is it just me or has everyone gone smoothie mad?

Don?t get me wrong, I?m not having a go at them/you, I love a good smoothie as much as the next chick. It just seems like the blogosphere has erupted with smoothie recipes left, right and centre.

I?m not imagining it. Am I?

Anyway, bring it on people. Or should I say, whizz it up people. And yes, do include all the latest trendy super foods like kale and chia seeds, so they can become more mainstream and we can all glow and glow and glow with health?

Hang on, I?m off track. Let?s chat about this smoothie.

Pineapple and coconut is one of the best ever flavour combinations, according to little old me, and here it is enhanced with mint and fresh orange juice to create a sweet and refreshing smoothie.

It could even be a cocktail if you added a splash of white rum, but that?s probably not the best idea for breakfast. Unless you want to. That?s your?prerogative.

I?m not drinking alcohol at any time since I?m pregnant, so I like indulging in this ?cocktail? for breakfast and pretending like I?m actually on holidays in Thailand, and it?s a real cocktail, and I?m lying on a deck chair on the beach getting a foot rub. Hey, a girl can dream you know!

If you?ve jumped on the green smoothie bandwagon then feel free to add a handful of spinach or kale too, the colour will change, but it will still be delicious.

Are you a smoothie lover? What?s your favourite combo?

Fuel System Cleaning At Bear Automotive & RV Service Inc In Grand ...

Fuel System Cleaning Grand Junction

Hello Grand Junction auto owners, lets talk about fuel. Fuel, whether gasoline or diesel, is delivered to your minivan engine to be burned to generate the power needed to keep you moving. This fuel leaves a residue as it moves through your fuel system. This may not seem like much, but it can cause big problems. Gum and varnish build up inside fuel lines, your throttle body and injectors. It?s like plaque build-up in your arteries ? it restricts the free flow of fuel and can even clog your minivan fuel injectors.

In addition, carbon from combustion starts to accumulate on your valves, inside the combustion chamber and on your pistons. This interferes with proper mixing of fuel and air and can prevent your valves from sealing properly. This means less power, rough running minivan engine and wasted fuel ? and could even lead to expensive damage over time.

A fuel system cleaning in Grand Junction at Bear Automotive & RV Service Inc clears out the gum and varnish from your fuel system and gets your injectors working properly, restoring power and improving fuel economy. Carbon deposits are dissolved and your minivan engine starts running like new again.

If your engine seems sluggish and less responsive than it used to be, it might mean that you need a fuel system cleaning. Ask your knowledgeable Bear Automotive & RV Service Inc service advisor if a fuel system cleaning is right for you.

Monkey Research Gives Insights Into New SARS-Like Virus - Health ...

lungs78 Monkey Research Gives Insights Into New SARS Like Virus

WEDNESDAY, April 3 (HealthDay News) ? U.S. researchers say a newly developed model of infection in monkeys is giving valuable information on an emerging SARS-like virus that has health officials worried worldwide.

The new coronavirus was first spotted in September and is similar to the SARS virus that killed hundreds globally a decade ago. So far, 17 people in the Middle East and Europe have become infected with the new virus, and 11 of them have died.

According to researchers from the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a model of infection developed in rhesus macaque monkeys indicates that illness symptoms begin to show within 24 hours of infection with the new strain. Those symptoms can include loss of appetite, fever, changes in breathing, cough and goosebumps, said a team led by Vincent Munster, chief of the virus ecology unit at the NIAID?s Laboratory of Virology.

In both monkeys and humans, the real danger comes from the fact that infection triggers illness deep in the lungs that can turn into pneumonia, the researchers said in an NIAID news release. The illness does not, however, seem to spread easily person-to-person, and the NIAID team hopes to find out whether the infection site, which is in the lower respiratory tract not the upper tract, might be a reason why.

The researchers published their findings online April 3 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Although cases of the new infection have so far occurred outside of North America, health officials are concerned that the illness could appear in the United States or Canada.

?We?re on the alert looking for this, and I think that?s why these cases are now being discovered,? Dr. William Schaffner, chairman of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., told ABCNews.com last week. ?People with puzzling pneumonia who we can?t figure out what?s going on right away are having specimens taken and sent to the reference lab for testing.?

Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they have alerted health departments in states and municipalities across the country to look out for suspicious illnesses among people who have recently been to the Middle East.
