CWN - January 11, 2013
Hundreds of residents of a small town in south-central Ohio voiced support for a portrait of Jesus that has hung in its middle school since 1947.
The Freedom from Religion Foundation had asked school officials in Jackson to remove the portrait. Following a school board meeting attended by 300 residents ? all but two of whom were in favor of retaining the portrait ? the school superintendent said that ?we?re not violating the law and the picture is legal because it has historical significance. It hasn?t hurt anyone.?
?I?m certainly not going to run down there and take the picture down because some group from Madison, Wisconsin, who knows nothing about the culture of our community or why the picture is even there, wants me to take it down,? he added in remarks to a radio station.
