Making Constant Lifestyle Changes To Achieve Self Improvement

Personal Development Quotes | Inspirational Bites

Self improvement deals with different areas of your life. When you make constant positive changes in your life, you would actually bring yourself closer to achieving self improvement, and it can help you attain your goals, whether they pertain to your career, family life, health, and so on.

Making positive changes in your life means that you don?t have to observe these changes right away. It is best if you gradually adapt them, so that you would become more motivated. With positive lifestyle changes, you can realize your dreams faster, become healthier and happier as well.

Change is a constant thing in this world, and a person does not have to wait for it to happen, since he can be the one to initiate it. When you make positive changes in your life, you are ensuring that your life would change for the better. On top of that, it can also inspire people around you, which can make you feel warmth inside, knowing that you are able to help them in a certain way.

The following are some lifestyle changes you can make:

  • Balance Work And Family Life

From now on, it is best if you separate your work from your family life. In other words, since your work usually takes about 8 to 9 hours of your day, then you should dedicate what remains of it to your family. When you get home from work, make sure that you won?t take calls regarding your work, and don?t bring your work assignments with you. This way, you can totally devote your time to your spouse and your kids when you are at home. You can play with your kids or help them with their assignments and you can also spend some time with your spouse in preparing for dinner. When you bond with your family, you become aware of what is more important for you. This can make you more inspired in performing your best at work, since after all, you are working in order to provide comfort and shelter for your family.

Positive thinking is something that can help brighten up your days. Positive thinkers would often find opportunities in problems, while negative people find problems in every opportunity that they meet. Seeing the positive side of things can prevent you from becoming stressed out when facing challenges at work or at home. Aside from that, it can also help you push yourself further when it comes to achieving your dreams no matter how many times you failed. Focus on the positive side of things, so that you become more inspired and happier in life.

Improving your overall health condition can be done by getting enough exercise, practicing good eating habits, and getting enough rest. It can prevent you from gaining weight, and make you more energetic in facing day to day challenges as well as enjoying the time that you have with your loved ones.

When you make positive lifestyle changes, you make a decision to enhance your overall quality of life. Such changes mentioned above are just some of the examples that you can ponder on. Once you practice them, you would eventually realize that there are still other things that you can change, which can pave the way to self improvement.

Nurses' certification could hinge on CMEs : Kaieteur News

Nurses may soon be subjected to mandatory Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions as part of their registration process. Minister of Health, Dr Bheri Ramsaran, made reference to such a development on Friday when he addressed a Midwives? Conference at the Regency Suites/Hotel, Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
According to him ?I would like to see it become mandatory, like among the doctors, that you have legislation for continuing medical education?not two lectures now here and two lectures in another Region.? The Minister spoke of the need for a raft of actions similar to what obtains in the Medical profession adding that ?continuous medical education will have to be a must.?
?In other words you cannot say ?I am a midwife and sit on my laurels and I will automatically get promotion or I will continue to be employed??so that certification process should include mandatory Continuing Medical Education,? insisted the Minister.
It is his expectation that the Midwives Association, which was formed out of the need for midwives to take responsibility for the development of the profession and the provision of quality midwifery services, would adopt a robust approach in this regard.
Besides this, the Minister said that he is anxious to see efforts being engaged to actively review cases of maternal mortality this year and using them as the basis for teacher materials.
?At the same time I would like to see you reaching beyond your immediate profession or circle in this regard. Talk to the doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation; bring them in, you have to have that group approach,? said the Minister.
Friday?s conference saw efforts being made to underscore the importance of training midwives not merely to ensure that they were qualified but to ensure that they were a part of a team. It was with this in mind, the Minister said, that ?I want to see a CME type review. We need to analyse mistakes that were made. The analysis is not that this year we had less deaths and last year we had more, but we have to look at the various cases vigorously? .
Of importance, he asserted, is the need to examine closely, cases that professionals were delinquent in submitting since June of this year. The Minister was at the time referring to maternal mortality cases that are gaining the attention of Cabinet.
?We are somewhat alarmed at the level of Cabinet about the maternal mortality deaths. We have been agitated by this since around November 2010 and then there were two consecutive media reports of maternal deaths?.?
According to the Minister he still awaits reports on maternal deaths that were reported in the media ??Cabinet and I am displeased that since June of this year I have not received a single report concerning even those high profile maternal deaths.?
The onus is on midwives, he stressed, to take pride in their conduct even as he reflected on the practice of a few old individuals within the profession.
?In the old days I know midwives used to keep journals of how many deliveries they did and I have been told by the Chief Medical Officer that there is an old midwife in the Mabaruma area who still, up to recently, continues that practice.?
Such actions, he intimated, will allow for midwives to follow their work and easily detect an interesting case when it occurs and even seek to uncover ways to embrace self-development.
Elaborating on the notion of self-development, the Minister said that it is imperative that, particularly the young midwives learn about the use of various drugs that might have been recommended or issued by doctors.
?These are things I want you to do to probably improve your Association and practice on the ward. Here you would actually be showing leadership, because when there is a contentious case, for example a maternal death and in some instances a near miss, you will be able to consult?.?
Embracing the motto ?Midwives: making a difference in the lives of women, children, families and communities? the Midwives Association was officially launched on May 6, 2009. Since then, midwives have organised and conducted continuing education sessions and held yearly conferences which also provide an environment for fostering unity and networking. With a membership of 85, it was just recently accepted as a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) which supports, advises and strengthens associations of midwives across the world.

Thai and Vietnamese cuisine at Lemon Grass (Ayala Center Cebu ...

I am always fascinated with the diversity and uniqueness yet amazing culture of other Asian countries. As I have friends from different nationalities and ethnicity, to experience their way of life is very fulfilling. Here in Cebu, I have a fair chance to try the taste of their culture? through food. This time, I will be sharing to you the taste of Thailand and Vietnam through Lemon Grass Restaurant at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.

Lemon Grass Vietnam ? Thailand Restaurant

The interior of the place is so Asian: water fountain, religious relics and artifacts like the prominent statues at the entrance door, chairs, tables, wooden carvings on the wall, and the ambiance. But, I usually stay outside to enjoy the presence of passers-by while I also enjoy the cool night breeze at the Terraces. Service crews, especially the waiters and waitresses are in Thai-inspired uniforms made out of silk and that sash? so Asian.

The water fountain and the statue of a traditional Thai dancer (or is it Buddha?s?) at the entrance hall of Lemon Grass

I have been at the Lemon Grass for many times and I am already aware that Thai has spicy, chill hot food. They serve food with chili and red pepper, either crashed or thrown in the platter whole. They also have peanuts as an ingredient in the menu, and of course, green vegetables which I love? and tofu.

Now, the disadvantage of staying outside is getting the attention of any waiter or waitress available, most especially when the inside is full-packed. But I still manage to wave a hand to one of them as they know I feature their services on the website. (How I love this blogging hobby!)

The menu (and don?t worry? it?s in English)

White plate with a nappy on top, silver spoon and fork, wooden chopsticks, paper place mat? It?s always this scene before I start my meal with Lemon Grass.

When I go visit a restaurant, I always have my ?the usual order? meal. Here at Lemon Grass, I have mine, a trio: a milk tea drink, an appetizer of tofu goodness, and a main course of noodles, shrimp and scrambled eggs. Here they are:

If you are familiar with how lemon grass tastes and smells like, it?s evident in their version of milk tea. I love this! So refreshing.

Fried tofu bean curd with greens in sweet, garlic sauce! Ahhh~ Heavenly goodness. If I will be a vegan, I can have these babies all the time!

Scrambled eggs, shrimp, peanuts, noodles, lemon, and green? and chili spicy! Pad Thai! I am so in love with this food. Thanks to my friends from Thailand for introducing Pad Thai!

The food is distinctively Asian, particularly influenced Thai. I was able to say that because I have no experiences with pure Vietnamese food (unless I have tried one before and I have no idea it was Vietnamese). The ingredients are fresh and they taste good too. And I love how the Lemon Grass milk tea tastes and smell. The tangy, minty and cool feeling as you sip or gulp it in. It is so amazing.

The Fried tofu bean curd is amazing as well. With its sauce and green veggies, this is going to be one of the reasons why I can be a vegetarian someday. In contrary, the Pad Thai is world famous. The noodles are still firm and the shrimp is to die for (I am not allergic to seafood but yeah, they are to die for!) What shocked me? Peanuts in almost all Thai food! And chili!

Overall, food is good!

This is an awesome dining experience. Why not give it a try?

Visit Lemon Grass Vietnam ? Thailand Restaurant. They are located at Level 1, The Terraces Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu City, Philippines. You can give them a call through (+63 32) 233 8601 or why not plan to have a dinner out at Lemon Grass? You will surely love the experience.

Curacao police have new leads in $11.5M gold heist

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao (AP) ? Police in Curacao said Saturday that they have several leads following a brazen heist in which gunmen pretending to be police stole 70 gold bars worth an estimated $11.5 million from a fishing boat.

Authorities have the license plate number of one of three cars used in Friday's getaway, and they have been asking for the public's help in tracking the suspects, police spokesman Reggie Huggins told The Associated Press.

"There is information coming in," he said. "We are getting reactions from the public, but we still have to sort it out."

Police have said that at least six men were involved, but no one has been arrested in a case that surprised authorities in the Dutch Caribbean island.

Huggins said police are still interviewing the captain and three crew members of the ship, which contacted officials in Curacao about the incoming gold shipment as part of regular security protocol. The gold bars weigh about 216 kilograms (476 pounds).

Police declined to say where the gold was being delivered, but one crew member, who identified himself to the AP as Raymond Emmanuel, said they were delivering the gold to an unidentified company in Curacao.

He said the crew left Guyana on Monday and arrived in Curacao early Friday. Shortly after the ship docked, masked gunmen wearing jackets with the word "police" assaulted the boat's captain and then stole the gold bars.

Huggins said that security guards allowed the suspects to enter a restricted area thinking they were customs officials.

Rechenel Martyn, spokesman for Curacao Customs, said the boat's captain shared with authorities the intended recipient of the gold bars, but he declined to release the name because the case is under investigation. He added that the ship's crew followed protocol and that there is no special procedure for shipments of high value.

Meanwhile, officials in Guyana said they are investigating whether the gold was mined in the South American country, which is near Curacao.

Environment Minister Robert Persaud told the AP that they have requested details about the gold bars, adding that such shipments are usually flown directly to the buyer and involve heavy security. The ship's crew members have said they weren't armed.

Both Persaud and Anan Balram, director of Guyana's Gold Board, said that if the gold was mined in Guyana, it would be a clear case of smuggling.

"We don't want to jump the gun and say that the gold is from Guyana," Persaud said. "That is what we first have to establish, as well as if the ship many any other stops anywhere else."

Officials said there is no record of the ship, named "Summer Bliss," leaving Guyana's Port Georgetown Harbor, adding that it could have left from a pier at any of the country's numerous rivers.

Guyana produces roughly 650,000 ounces of gold a year, and officials say that up to half that amount is smuggled out of the country to avoid paying taxes. Most of the gold is sold in neighboring Brazil, Venezuela and Suriname.

Brief interventions can help college students return to a healthy lifestyle

ScienceDaily (Nov. 29, 2012) ? The weight gain commonly known as the "Freshman 15" is a negative aspect of the college experience for many college freshmen who are independent for the first time, most making lifestyle decisions about eating and exercise. Researchers say it's no surprise freshmen experience one of the largest weight gains in their lifetimes when they attend college. A new study from the University of Missouri has found that a brief intervention, sometimes as little as 30 minutes, can help put students back on the right track to a healthy lifestyle -- a change that can impact the rest of their lives.

"What we found in our study was that getting personalized feedback about health issues is important," said Matt Martens, associate professor of counseling psychology in the College of Education. "It may not matter how long or short that intervention is; what seems to be important is getting the feedback. These simple interventions can be used at a doctor's office prior to an appointment, possibly while the individual is sitting in the waiting room. The idea behind these methods is to open the conversations, identifying the unhealthy lifestyle decisions and setting goals for the future."

Brief interventions can be delivered in many forms. In the current study, participants were asked to complete a 10-minute questionnaire. They were then given a feedback sheet based on their responses, which they discussed with a clinician for approximately 25 to 30 minutes. After one month, those who received the intervention reported engaging in significantly more exercise compared to those who did not receive the intervention.

While it could be difficult to do this during every doctor visit, Martens said that health care providers could alter these suggestions to fit their patients. If providers can begin to include these intervention strategies, they could see their patients making better decisions about their lifestyles, Martens said.

Current federal activity guidelines recommend that individuals participate in 75 minutes of vigorous, physical activity per week or 150 minutes of moderate activity per week. Martens said that, prior to the intervention, the study participants fell far short of those recommendations.

Another benefit of this intervention is the low cost that is associated with this type of strategy. Potentially not much time, if any, is needed between the patient and the health care provider, but it could save a lot of money in prevention costs.

"The whole point of all these studies on exercise, interventions and lifestyle decisions is to keep people from getting sick," Martens said. "In the end, it comes down to individuals making good lifestyle decisions, but sometimes it's important for healthcare providers to bring certain decisions that do not contribute to a healthy lifestyle to the attention of the patient."

The study was published in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health.
