MANILA, Philippines ? Philippine police say gunmen have shot dead a radio broadcaster as he drove his car with his wife and son.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines says Christopher Guarin is the 150th journalist killed in the country since democracy was restored in 1986.
Police Chief Supt. Benjardi Mantele said Friday that Guarin managed to flee from his car after motorcycle-riding gunmen shot him late Thursday in southern General Santos city. The assailants then chased and shot Guarin repeatedly at close range before escaping.
Guarin was a broadcaster at Radio Mindanao Network and the publisher of a local tabloid.
His wife, who was slightly injured in the attack, said in a radio interview that her husband had received death threats. The son was not injured.
