Beneficial Credit Card Tips That Anyone Can Use - Options Finance

A credit card can get you out of any number of financial predicaments. Do you have to purchase an item, but you do not have any cash? That?s not a problem! Having a credit card can get you out of an immediate jam. Would you like to build up your credit? It?s easy with a card! Check out the advice in this article for some hand credit card tips and tricks.

Is your payment due date an actual due date or just a suggested one? Some companies use the suggested date as a means of getting their money up to 15 days earlier than what is actually required. It helps to know whether you?re dealing with a true due date, or just a suggested due date, if you?re having trouble finding the amount of money necessary to pay your bill.

If you don?t mind others prying, keep a list of the purchases you have made with charge cards in plain view. This will help remind you of your ongoing total and what exactly, you are spending it on. This will help you keep your credit spending under control and you will be helping keep yourself out of a huge debt problem in the future.

Premium Credit Card

To ensure that you don?t over pay for your premium credit card, check whether your card has annual fees attached to it. Depending on the card, annual fees for platinum or other premium cards, can run between $100 and $1,000. The best bet is that if you do not need a premium credit card, avoid them and do not pay the fees.

Do not close active credit accounts. It may seem like the obvious thing to do to help your credit score, but closing accounts can actually be detrimental to your credit score. When you close an account, the amount of overall credit you have is lowered, and this could make your current lending ratio percentage higher.

Be sure that you fully understand the terms of the credit card prior to signing up for it. Certain credit card companies have hidden fees and special requirements that must be met before benefits apply. The credit card policy should be read and understood before you use the card.

Carry cards daily only if you need to use them that day. You could own six cards or more, but you should carefully consider which particular cards that you use often. This is typically a basic card or a gasoline card. Only keep these ones in your wallet that you need and keep the rest secured at home.

Don?t put your pin or password to paper, no matter what the circumstances. You need to just remember what your password is so no one else can steal or use it. Writing your pin number down increases the chance that someone else uses it.

Credit Card

If you submitted your credit card payment late, or if you missed your payment, you should consider asking your credit card company for lower interest rates or fees. If you?re late with a payment, you can be charged increased fees and interest rates. Often, credit card companies will reduce or reverse these charges if you take the time to call and pursue it.

Beware of credit cards that offer interest-free or low-interest introductory periods. Using such offers can lead to more debt than one would normally accrue. It may seem as though you are scoring big, but the fact is that you may be making a costly error.

Credit Card

Now you know of the many ways a credit card can be used. This ranges from simply buying things at a checkout line to trying to boost your credit score. Use the information that was presented to you to get the most out of your credit card usage.

Everybody is always seeking out information on more trending topics on this site, that is understandable, since it has become very popular over the years. You may need time to learn everything, but this article was a great first step. You will eventually master the subject.

Council of Foreign Relations website hacked

4 hrs.

How would you like it if one of your favorite websites were hacked and rigged to infect you with malware??

That's what seems to have happened to the website of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), a New York-based bipartisan think tank with a long list of illustrious members.?

The CFR's website was infected around Dec. 21 with a Trojan that exploited a previously unknown, or zero-day, flaw in older versions of Internet Explorer, setting up visitors using IE for a?drive-by download infection.?

"The vulnerability is a remote code execution vulnerability that exists in the way that Internet Explorer accesses an object in memory that has been deleted or has not been properly allocated," Microsoft said in a?security advisory?posted Saturday. "The vulnerability may corrupt memory in a way that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user within Internet Explorer."?

The malware affects Internet Explorer versions 6 through 8. Internet Explorer 9 and 10 are not affected, meaning users of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 can upgrade to those browsers to avoid infection.?

Microsoft is working on a fix, but in the meantime?recommends?that Windows users who cannot upgrade to newer versions of Internet Explorer set their Internet and intranet security-zone settings to "High," to set up alerts before running Active Scripting and to install the free?Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit. [Update: Microsoft has?posted a "fix-it,"?a script that temporarily fixes the problem while the company continues to work on a full patch.]?

Chinese connection??
The CFR website compromise was first reported by the?Washington Free Beacon, a conservative news blog that quoted anonymous sources as saying the attack seemed to originate in China.?

FireEye, a Milpitas, Calif.-based information-security company, confirmed the CFR website was hosting malicious code in the form of a rigged Adobe Flash file.?

In its blog posting,?FireEye noted?that the code associated with the malware also restricted its victims to only systems using English, Russian, Chinese, Korean or Japanese, and that some internal code used simplified Chinese characters, as used on the Chinese mainland.?

Chinese state-sponsored hackers have been suspected in dozens of major information-stealing network attacks on Western governments, corporations and organizations over the past half decade.?

Such attacks are often politely termed "advanced persistent threats," and while most of the evidence points to China, few of the suspicions have been proven.?

American bigwig jackpot
Because the CFR is so prestigious and influential, experts characterized its website's hijacking as a?"watering-hole" attack.?

Watering-hole attacks are similar to?spear-phishing attacks?in that they target computers belonging to a specific person or a small group of people, but using Web browsers instead of email clients as the infection mechanism.?

In the case of the CFR, dozens of its prominent members would be ripe targets for state-sponsored information thieves. Former Treasury Secretary and Goldman Sachs head Robert Rubin co-chairs the board of directors, while former U.S. Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell sit on the board, as do journalists Tom Brokaw and Fareed Zakaria.?

Former secretaries of state Henry Kissinger, George Shultz and James Baker are reportedly lifetime members, as are current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, as well as Hillary Clinton's possible replacement Sen. John Kerry.?

Other lifetime members are said to include Fox News Channel head Roger Ailes, his boss Rupert Murdoch, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, Vice President Joe Biden, former vice presidents Dick Cheney and Walter Mondale and former presidents George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.

Outright Plus

Several years ago, a couple of young men left Intuit to start their own business. They struggled with the organization of their new company's financial data because it was spread out all over in places like online bank accounts, spreadsheets and PayPal. Outright Plus ($9.95 per month) grew out of that frustration. Kevin Reeth and Ben Curren didn't set out to create an application that would compete with QuickBooks. Rather than trying to build a financial solution that would provide A-Z accounting tools, they wanted to address one very challenging situation: taxes. Specifically, quarterly and annual income taxes and sales taxes for sole proprietors, freelancers and other small businesses.

Today, the collection of tools that used to be called Outright is instead Outright Plus, and it now costs $9.95 per month to subscribe?a reasonable charge considering its scope (you can still use the site's income- and expense-tracking tools for free). The company has done a great job of selecting integrated partner sites that their audience might be likely to frequent and use for related financial functions, solutions like PayPal and FreshBooks, eBay, and Etsy.

A Smart Shell
Outright Plus itself is really just a framework that manages your core financial functions. It imports, categorizes, stores and reports on transactions from other sources so that your sales- and income tax-tracking require exponentially less data entry and time. It also maximizes accuracy, since you never have to re-key the same transaction twice.

Setup is simple. The first thing you'll do is add the accounts that contain financial transactions that you'll want to import and keep updated. This process works similarly in all of the sites reviewed here. You click, "Add an Account," and then either type in the name of the institution or select it from the list provided. Enter the user ID and password you use to sign in to its website, and Outright Plus establishes a connection, then downloads your first group of transactions (you can update these whenever you want to). Clicking on the Income and Expenses tabs opens the checkbook-like registers that contain your activity.

If Outright Plus recognizes the name of the company that you exchanged funds with, it assigns it to a category. If not, you can select one yourself from the list provided, and indicate whether you want Outright Plus to always assign that category to that particular source. You can also enter income and expenses manually.

Getting Ready for Taxes
There are four types of categories: income, expense, non-business expense and non-business income. The first two are the most important, as they're linked to specific areas on the IRS Schedule C. For example, "Sales" links to "Gross Receipts or Sales." The Non-Business Income and Expense categories are used for personal transactions, credit card payments, estimated and income tax payments, etc.

You can add and edit categories, but you shouldn't alter any category related to taxes. The founders were reticent at first to even allow this capability because it can affect the accuracy of your Schedule C.

There are two special categories that are not true income or expenses, because you're simply passing along money you collect that belongs to the state: Sales Tax Collected and Sales Tax Submitted. Some imported deposits, like those coming from eBay, will have already separated sales tax from the other money collected from sales and categorized it correctly. You can also enter sales taxes collected manually and run a report that displays sales by state.

Fulfilling Your Obligations
Lest you worry about all of these financial transactions flying into Outright Plus, there are a couple of things you should know. First, Outright Plus uses bank-level security. There are actually security professionals standing guard in the facilities that house the remote servers. And second, no one can compromise your accounts and transfer funds elsewhere. You can't even do that. Outright Plus simply houses and categorizes your transactions.

All of this account updating and careful categorization pays off when taxes are due to states or the federal government. Click the Taxes tab, and a page opens with four subtabs. The first, Annual taxes, displays the happy number that is your current net profit, as well as your total income and expenses. Under each of the latter two, Outright Plus supplies the dollar figures that will appear on specific lines of the Schedule C. Click on a line, and you can view or edit the individual transactions that contributed to the total.

If you're self-employed, you know how difficult it is to determine how much to submit each quarter in estimated taxes. Outright Plus does that for you, providing a number that should be reasonably accurate, assuming that you've imported and recorded every related transaction. So when it's time to pony up. click the Quarterly Taxes tab. Outright Plus displays the amount you should pay and lets you record the payment on that same page (unfortunately, you'll have to submit the payment yourself ? Outright Plus doesn't do that). Sales taxes are handled similarly. Outright Plus tells you how much you've collected and should pay, and provides a field to record your payment.

If you've received a 1099-K form, you'll get help understanding this new IRS requirement and finding related data within Outright Plus.

Pulling It All Together
Outright Plus' dashboard ("Overview") does a nice job of consolidating your most critical financial information on one page. The left vertical pane displays links to new sales and uncategorized transactions; account totals for money you have and owe; and current calculated tax obligation totals. Two big charts on the right show you your profit and loss totals (with a link to a detailed table) and your expense category breakdown.

Outright Plus is representative of the future of small business accounting. We're very slowly moving toward cloud-based procedures, a la carte financial management. Today's smartest people in the field tell us that years from now, companies will be able to select individual solutions from different vendors that meet their needs in areas like bill-paying, invoicing, payroll, inventory management, reports, etc. They'll be built to easily integrate with each other.

Small business accounting vendors have long been partnering with companies that make complementary solutions, applications that add more sophisticated features to traditional software. The QuickBooks desktop family is the best example of this; there are hundreds of add-ons in its App Center. But financial management has begun a long, slow evolution away from the desktop and into the cloud.

Today, Outright Plus has a fairly small group of solid add-on partners. But its founders had the right idea. It'd be a good choice for you if you're a sole proprietor or very small business that simply wants a way to track income and expenses by importing financial transactions, invoice customers (by integrating with FreshBooks), track and record sales tax obligations, and have your quarterly taxes estimated and your Schedule C business data automatically calculated and categorized. If you want a more comprehensive, traditional solution online, QuickBooks Online is your best choice today.

Sudanese police block protest at human rights commission

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudanese security forces on Sunday blocked activists trying to deliver a petition criticising the government to the country's human rights commission, drawing a rare rebuke from the state-appointed body.

Sudan has avoided mass "Arab Spring" protests that unseated rulers in Egypt and Tunisia, but President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, who seized power in 1989, has faced dissent over a severe economic crisis and corruption.

Before the activists arrived, police and plain clothed security agents, some armed with batons, pulled up in cars and spread out at the front gate to bar entry to the commission, witnesses said.

"Plain clothed agents beat several activists trying to submit their petition and also journalists covering the protest," a witness told Reuters. Policemen also grabbed placards held up by the protesters.

Around 40 human rights activists had called for the protest at the Human Rights Commission in Khartoum to criticise the government for what they called obstruction of the work of civil society.

Staff at the commission, whose head was appointed by Bashir, came out of the building to ask police to let the activists deliver their letter, but police refused.

The commission, which rarely criticises the government, condemned the breakup as an "attack" on the commission.

"The commission rejects this behaviour. It is a clear violation of the constitution...and the law regulating the Human Rights Commission," it said in a statement.

"This will be also considered as attack on the inviolability of the commission and its immunity."

The security forces were not immediately available to comment.

Sudanese police fired teargas on university students in early December after four days of protests which followed the death of four students from Darfur.

The demonstrations were the most sustained to hit Sudan after a wave of protests against government austerity measures in June .

Cele|bitchy ? Blog Archive ? Scarlett Johansson: marriage 'isn't ...

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson covers the February issue of Elle UK to promote her role as Janet Leigh in Hitchcock. Exactly what is going on with her hair on this cover? Obviously, I?m a fan of the bedhead look, but it?s got no place on an otherwise sleek cover filled with neutral colors and fug, peep-toed booties. This look is neck-to-toe Victoria Beckham, and it?s nice to see that Vicky is now actively marketing her clothing to the greater-than-size-0 market. Other than the out-of-place hair, the editorial is pretty gorgeous and flattering to ScarJo?s figure. I really do like this blue and white satin dress with a bit of sexy thigh flashing through an asymmetrical sheer panel. The interview isn?t bad either, and here are some excerpts:

Scarlett Johansson

On turning 30 soon: ?I feel like I?ve been transitioning from young woman into womanhood for a very long time. Now as I approach 30, with the last few years behind me, I feel like growing pains are behind me. It?s just nice to feel happy.?

About the phone hacking of her nude pics: ?It was a crazy time. I had some problems in my family and publicly, my relationship ? all that stuff. It was like ?Oh man what next?? But life has ebbs and flows, don?t you think? Things are more manageable now, but I?m sure something will crumble. I keep it together. I am relatively composed but I can also lose my s***. I?m pretty controlled, and probably controlling too, for better or worse. I?m working on it.?

She?s not looking to get married again: ?I got married when I was young and it was incredibly romantic and I liked being married, actually. But it is different. It?s hard to put into words. To me, being in a functioning relationship doesn?t mean you have to be married. I never think about marriage. Is that weird? The only time I ever think about it is when people ask me. ?Would I get married again?? It?s really not important to me. It has no relevance to me right now. I?m not having kids any time soon, I?m in a nice relationship, I?m working a lot and, like I said, it?s not important to me.?

On dating outside of the acting pool: ?I think there are challenges whether that person?s in your profession or not. It?s nice that [fellow actors] can relate, and you have a shorthand when you?re talking about work, but that can also be monotonous. For me, most importantly, I look for a partner who is creative. I like people that have a colourful way of looking at things, that are inspiring and like art, music and film?.?

On her unwitting ?sexy? image: ?I think any woman who is curvy and wears a gown to an event is, like, super-sexualised. I mean, at the time I was 18, 19. I was young. I?ve always been curvy. It runs in the family. Throw on an evening frock and it?s like all of a sudden you have boobs and everyone is like: ?bombshell!? Instantly it was: ?The new Marilyn?.?

[From Elle UK]

Okay, I can appreciate that Scarlett is still really tired of being considered a sex symbol, but there?s no way she can claim to have not channelled Marilyn Monroe in a recent Dolce & Gabbana advertising campaign. Although I guess she may have had no input in her styling for those shots, but I still think Scarlett must have at least been flattered by the comparisons during her earlier career. Now she?s wary of anyone even noticing that she has boobs.

As for Scarlett?s comments about marriage and how she?s not about to go there again (at least not anytime soon) as well as her thoughts on having kids ? well, I guess we really now know what happened to her and Ryan Reynolds, right? He was probably disappointed that she didn?t want to give up her career and start having babies right away, and I guess they (like so many other couples) just didn?t know each other well enough before getting married. Hopefully, Blake Lively will have better luck in the long run.

Foursquare will now show users' full names

12 hrs.

Foursquare is changing its privacy policy so that all users will have to share their full name on the location-based social network. Some users already do, but others go by a first name with last name initial. That's going to end, starting Jan. 28.

The change was announced in an email sent to users. Foursquare also said in the same email that businesses using the social network, now limited to seeing customers who have checked in in the last three hours, will be able to ?have more time to review those logs.

"This is great for helping store owners identify their customers and give them more personal service or offers," Foursquare said in the?email. "But a lot of businesses only have time to log in at the end of the day to look at it. So, with this change, we?re going to be showing them more of those recent check-ins, instead of just three hours worth."

Foursquare notes, that, "as?always, if you?d prefer not to permit businesses to see when you check into their locations going forward, you can uncheck the box under ?Location Information? at?https://foursquare.com/settings/privacy."

The extra-diplomatic tone of the email likely was shaped by the recent?Instagram debacle over user privacy.

Foursquare, which says it has more than 25 million users worldwide now, with more than 3 billion check-ins, noted in the email that users who want to know more about the social network's privacy policy can find those details and others in its "Privacy 101" document online.
